How important is it to be taught how to be a
balanced rider?
(Watch the whole video to see this in slow motion and then
frame by frame)
Tricia was practicing barrels with a horse that was very excited.
He acted up on the first barrel, then as they went into the second
barrel his back foot stepped on the shoe of his front foot, ripping
the shoe off.
This video demonstrates the importance of balance to keep the
rider as well as the horse from getting seriously injured.  Notice
that she doesn't grab the horn until she needs it to pull herself
forward in order to grab the horse's reins as he is recovering from
his trip.
(For those of you who think children and beginners don't need to
wear riding helmets when they ride, you may want to think again.)
